The Situation

A cold southwesterly flow over Aotearoa/New Zealand eases today as a ridge of high pressure builds from the west.

Looking at the weather to midnight tomorrow

Northland

Mainly fine today. Cloudy periods tomorrow with isolated showers from afternoon.

Auckland, Waikato, Waitomo, Coromandel, Bay of Plenty, Taupo and Taumarunui

Mainly fine, with frosts tomorrow morning. Cloudy periods and isolated showers tomorrow evening west of Bay of Plenty.

Gisborne and Hawke's Bay

Showers about and north of Wairoa, clearing this evening. Otherwise mainly fine, with frosts tomorrow morning.

Taranaki and Taihape to the Kapiti Coast

Mainly fine today. Cloudy periods and isolated showers tomorrow.

Wellington and Wairarapa

Remaining showers clearing to fine this afternoon. Cloudy periods returning this evening.

Marlborough, Nelson, Buller, Westland, Canterbury, North Otago and Central Otago

Mainly fine, with areas of frost tomorrow morning. However, isolated showers about Buller and Westland tomorrow.

Dunedin, Clutha, Southland and Fiordland

Mostly cloudy with the odd shower.

Chatham Islands

Occasional showers.

Monday

North Island: Partly cloudy with isolated showers. South Island: Isolated showers in the south and about Banks Peninsula, otherwise fine.

Tuesday

North Island: Cloud increasing. Isolated showers in the west. South Island: Showers in the west, isolated showers for Nelson and the Sounds. Rain developing in the far south. Mainly fine elsewhere.

Wednesday

North Island: Rain developing early, possibly heavy, easing late. South Island: Scattered rain in the north. Showers in the west and south clearing, but returning late in the far south. Partly cloudy elsewhere.

And at the Chathams

Showers and strong southwesterlies, easing on Monday. Cloudy periods and the odd shower from Tuesday with northwesterlies developing on Wednesday.
