Community groups worried about pace, quality of repairs

Community groups in Christchurch are taking no comfort in the news the Earthquake Commission has brought forward its deadline for repairing thousands of earthquake-damaged properties.

Two groups, WeCan and Cancern, say they're more concerned about the quality of the repairs, rather than the fact they'll be finished a year earlier.

The Earthquake Commission says about 80,000 home repairs it is overseeing will be done by the end of next year, instead of 2015 as was initially predicted.

WeCan and Cancern say they're hearing from claimants and contractors that repairs and structural assessments aren't being done properly.

Spokesperson for Cancern Leanne Curtis says she's heard from contractors who feel the types of repairs they're being told to do aren't always right.
