Now the MetService long range forecast for all New Zealand to midnight Wednesday
The Situation
A couple of fronts move up the South Island today. The first front should reach the Cook Strait late tonight, while the other becomes stationary over the central South Island. A ridge holds over the North Island, while a second ridge builds over the lower South Island.
Looking at the weather to midnight tomorrow
Northland to Waikato and Bay of Plenty
Fine.
Waitomo to Wellington including the central high country
Often cloudy, with showers about Horowhenua clearing this afternoon. A few light showers about Wellington tomorrow morning, otherwise mainly fine.
Gisborne, Hawke's Bay and Wairarapa
Mainly fine today. Cloud and isolated showers developing tomorrow.
Nelson and Marlborough
Mainly fine, but showers about the Kaikoura Coast late evening and tomorrow morning.
Canterbury and Otago
Rain in Otago, spreading north this afternoon, with snow lowering to 3-400 metres. Some heavy falls possible. Clearing from Clutha late afternoon and elsewhere by tomorrow afternoon.
Buller and Westland
Rain with some heavy falls about Westland, easing tomorrow. Isolated showers elsewhere.
Fiordland and Southland
Showers, with snow to 400 metres, clearing this afternoon. Fine tomorrow.
Chatham Islands
Cloudy periods. Isolated showers tomorrow.

Monday
North Island: Mainly fine, apart from isolated showers in the east and north, becoming widespread in the north at night. South Island: Mostly cloudy with Isolated showers in the east from Timaru northwards. A few showers about southern Westland and Fiordland, clearing. Mainly fine elsewhere.
Tuesday
North Island: Rain developing north of Auckland city. Isolated showers in the east. Mainly fine elsewhere. South Island: Mostly cloudy in the east, with a few showers north of Timaru. Late showers for Stewart Island. Fine elsewhere.
Wednesday
North Island: Rain north of Hamilton, possibly heavy, easing. Isolated showers in the east and south, easing. Mainly fine elsewhere. South Island: Cloud and isolated showers in the east and far south, clearing in the east. Fine elsewhere.
And at the Chathams
Cloudy periods and southeasterlies on Monday. The odd shower on Tuesday, and clouding over on Wednesday with southwesterlies.
