Now the MetService long range forecast for all New Zealand to midnight Wednesday

The Situation

A strong cold southwesterly flow covers Aotearoa New Zealand for the next few days.

Looking at the weather to midnight tomorrow

In the west from Northland to Taranaki including the central high country

Occasional showers, easing later tomorrow.

Bay of Plenty, Gisborne and Hawke's Bay

Mainly fine.

Whanganui to Horowhenua, Kapiti Coast

Cloudy periods and isolated showers.

Wellington and Wairarapa

Fine today. A few showers tomorrow morning and afternoon.

Buller and Westland

Showers north of Hokitika, fine elsewhere.

Nelson, Marlborough and Canterbury

Fine, with areas of frosts tomorrow morning.

Otago, Southland and Fiordland

Showers, mainly Fiordland, Southland and Clutha. Snow to 500 metres in the south late evening and tomorrow morning. Gale southwesterlies in the southeast from afternoon, easing later tomorrow morning.

Chatham Islands

A few showers today. Tomorrow, showers, some heavy with squally thunderstorms and hail in the afternoon and evening, with gale westerlies.

Monday

North Island: Occasional showers in the west, and one or two showers spreading elsewhere at times. South Island: Showers in the south, with snow possible to 600 metres at first, and a few showers in the west. Mainly fine elsewhere.

Tuesday

North Island: Partly cloudy in the west with a few showers from Manawatu northwards. Mainly fine elsewhere, but the odd shower about the east coast. South Island: Showers in the south. A few showers about northern Westland and Buller clearing. Mostly fine elsewhere.

Wednesday

North Island: Occasional rain or showers in the west spreading elsewhere. South Island: Showers in the south and west. Fine elsewhere at first, but showers spreading northwards during the day.

Showers, some heavy, and gale southwesterlies easing late Tuesday.
