Police have arrested and charged a man with murder, following a death in West Auckland's Te Atatū on Monday.

The 29-year-old is accused of the murder of 27-year-old Nazia Hai.

Emergency services were called to an incident on Graham Avenue around 7.15am Monday, where Hai was taken to hospital in a critical condition. She later died of her injuries.

The accused will appear in Waitākere District Court on Wednesday.

Detective Inspector Aaron Proctor said Hai and the accused were known to each other.

"This is a tragic incident and we are ensuring there is support in place for those closest to the victim.

"We know this will have been a shock to the community, however we would like to reassure them this appears to be an isolated incident.

"As such, police are not seeking anyone else in relation to this matter."

Proctor said a post-morten had been completed and police continue to make inquiries at the address.

"A police presence remains in the area while we complete our scene examination, which will likely conclude tomorrow."
