Net migration continues to decline

Net migration continues to decline as more non-New Zealand citizens leave the country while fewer citizens return.

Official figures to the end of May put annual net migration at 66,200

More than 30,000 non-New Zealand citizens departed the country, up by one percent, while just more than 32,000 citizens returned, down 0.2 percent compared to April.

New Zealand citizen departures are also up slightly to 33,400.

Visitor numbers from India were up for May to 9000, up 2100 from the same time last year.

Overall, 222,000 visitors arrived in May, an increase of almost 13,000 on the same time last year.
