Minister makes fixing quake damaged land easier

The Earthquake Recovery Minister has used his special legislative powers to make it easier for people to repair earthquake-damaged land.

Gerry Brownlee has approved amendments to four regulatory plans that will mean some property owners won't need resource consents.

Mr Brownlee says the changes relate to minor repair work to undulating land, ponding, land cracking and lateral spreading.

He says using his special powers reduces costs and delays for property owners and will help the Christchurch City and Canterbury Regional councils streamline their consenting processes.

The changes come into effect immediately.
