Sport: Australian PM's XIII name strong line-up for PNG clash

With World Cup spots up for grabs, the Australian Prime Minister's XIII have named a powerful line-up to take on Papua New Guinea in next weekend's annual rugby league clash in Kokopo.

Nine players have test match experience including North Queensland Cowboys centre Brent Tate and Josh Morris from the Canterbury Bulldogs.

Parramatta's Jarryd Hayne will start at fullback with James Tamou, Greg Bird and Wests Tigers skipper Robbie Farah among the forwards.

Australia coach Tim Sheens says the match is a chance for players to push their case for World Cup selection and will provide valuable match conditioning with the opening match against England not until the end of October.

The game also shapes as a last chance for PNG hopefuls to impress coaches Adrian Lam and Mal Meninga, coming off the back of this weekend's Kumul Red v Gold trial match.
