A newly-formed working group in the Northern Marianas is looking various options for foreigners before they can get improved immigration status.
The group, led by the Governor Benigno Fitial, is considering a minimum threshold of eight, 10 or 15 years.
The U.S. Department of the Interior had recommended a cutoff period of five years' stay in the CNMI for a foreign worker to be considered for improved immigration status.
Mr Fitial formed the working group thsi week to review Interior's report and recommendation to the US Congress on the status of foreign workers, and then come up with a unified CNMI position on the matter.
