Niue's sacked financial secretary, Mike Fleming, is heading back to New Zealand in the weekend still determined to clear his name.
The premier of Niue, Toke Talagi, dismissed Mr Fleming last month after blaming him for contributing to the country's financial strife by stockpiling aviation fuel.
The fuel was brought into Niue last year to cover extra flights during the Pacific Islands Forum meeting but an insufficient amount was uplifted.
Mike Fleming says he had nothing to do with ordering the fuel which has caused a cash-flow problem rather than an ongoing crisis.
His lawyer has written to the government with evidence of his unfair dismissal and is now waiting for a response.
Mr Fleming's wages were partly covered by the New Zealand government.
