American Samoa closes ministry health clinics at canneries

12:05 pm on 12 November 2007

American Samoa's Senate President, Lolo M.

Moliga is supporting a move by the Department of Health to close down a clinic held at the canneries.

Lolo says government services should be provided at the appropriate government premises but not at private businesses where there are no set regulations .

He says the clinic should have never been opened at the canneries in the first place.

Testimony before the Senate Select

Investigative Committee revealed that ministry staff and the physician staffing the clinic were getting paid directly from the canneries for their work after hours.
