India and Fiji are expected to sign a general memorandum of understanding on development co-operation during a visit by Fiji's Prime Minister.

The agreement is due to be signed by the two prime ministers at a meeting today.

Another agreement on health service partnership is also expected to be signed off.

This deal will enable Fiji to explore technical collaboration and exchange of information with India on areas such as medical treatment referral, public health and hospital management.

The Global Organisation of People of Indian Origin had opposed Laisenia Qarase's visit to India, criticising him for what they said was a denial of fundamental rights to Indians in his country.
