The Asian Development Bank has opened a new Pacific Liaison and Coordination office in Sydney.

The ADB says the office will focus on developing the private sector in the region.

In a press release, ADB's regional director Naomi Chakwin says ensuring the right environment to stimulate private sector investment is crucial for Pacific countries.

The ADB has offices in PNG, Fiji, Timor Leste and now Australia.

It invests 7-million US dollars a year in private sector activity in the Pacific.
