The chief electoral officer in Niue says the Finance Minister Toke Talagi still has a chance of holding onto his seat.
Provisional results from the weekend's elections indicated Mr Talagi had lost his seat by two votes.
However the electoral officer, Togia Sioneholo, says the final results for three seats including Mr Talagi's should be known within two days.
"We are making sure the numbers are correct and then we will give notice to the candiates concerned to come in for a recount if they so wish."
Mr Sioneholo says 831 people voted in the elections, making results close.
He says if there is a tie, the winner will be found by drawing names out of a hat.
