Women from Makira province in Solomon Islands have arrived in the capital to lobby the government against the dumping of toxic waste from Taiwan on the island.

They plan to met women from Makira based in the Honiara.

The leaders of the group suspect the government has not completely dropped the proposal.

George Atkin has more from Honiara:

"The National Council of Women appars to hold the same suspicion. this is despite confirmation by Taipei and the Sir Allan Kemikeza government that the proposal would not now eventuate. Council General Secretary, Ruth Maetola, has said it does appear the government remains interested in the Haura proposal to import Taiwanese toxic waste."
