Now the MetService long range forecast for all New Zealand to midnight Friday
The Situation
A broad low, with embedded fronts, is spreading onto the north of the North Island from this afternoon, then moves across the motu during Tuesday. A front over Fiordland is moving away to the northwest early Tuesday, and a narrow ridge builds over the south of the South Island during Tuesday.
Looking at the weather to midnight tomorrow
Northland, Auckland and Coromandel
Partly cloudy with isolated showers. Rain spreading south this afternoon and evening, possibly heavy, turning to showers tomorrow. Thunderstorms possible.
Waikato to Wellington, including the central high country, also Bay of Plenty
Generally fine, with areas of fog. Rain spreading south tonight, becoming heavy with possible thunderstorms for a time tomorrow morning.
Gisborne, Hawke's Bay and Wairarapa
Mostly cloudy with a few showers. Heavy rain developing tomorrow morning.
Marlborough, Nelson and Buller
Mostly fine today. Rain developing tomorrow, clearing Nelson and Buller later.
Westland
Areas of cloud, and a few showers, clearing this afternoon and becoming fine.
Canterbury, Otago and Southland
Mostly cloudy, with patchy drizzle about Canterbury. Scattered rain about Southland and Clutha.
Fiordland
Periods of rain today. Fine tomorrow.
Chatham Islands
Cloudy periods.

Wednesday
North Island: Rain or showers in the east and south with heavy falls possible. A few showers for Northland. Partly cloudy elsewhere. South Island: Patchy rain or drizzle about Canterbury and Marlborough. Becoming fine for Otago and Southland. Fine elsewhere.
Thursday
North Island: Rain in the east and south, with heavy falls. A few showers for Northland and Auckland. Partly cloudy elsewhere. South Island: Partly cloudy, with isolated showers developing for Buller and northern Westland. Cloud increasing in the south with showers developing late.
Friday
North Island: Rain in the south and east, easing. Showers easing for Northland. Isolated showers elsewhere. South Island: Showers in the far south, with snow to 800 metres. Fine for Nelson and Marlborough. Isolated showers developing elsewhere.
And at the Chathams
Mostly cloudy on Wednesday and Thursday, then showers developing on Friday. East to southeasterly winds throughout.
