Now the MetService long range forecast for all New Zealand to midnight Wednesday

The Situation

A ridge dominates the North Island most of today, while a front moving up the South Island reaches the lower North Island this evening. The front weakens as it progress to the central North Island on Sunday, while a slim ridge builds behind it.

Looking at the weather to midnight tomorrow

Northland to Waikato, including Coromandel

Partly cloudy. Patchy rain about Auckland and Waikato tomorrow.

Waitomo to Wellington, including the central high country

Cloud increasing. Scattered rain developing this evening, then clearing from the south tomorrow morning and fine spells developing.

Bay of Plenty, also Gisborne to Wairarapa

Fine and cloudy periods, with the odd shower tomorrow.

Nelson and Marlborough

High cloud today, with scattered rain this evening. Fine tomorrow.

Buller and Westland

Rain spreading north today, possibly heavy, followed by cloudy periods and the odd shower.

Canterbury, also North and Central Otago

Mainly fine, with rain about the Canterbury High Country clearing this evening.

Remainder of Otago, also Southland and Fiordland

Scattered showers today. Mainly fine tomorrow, with a few showers about Fiordland and the south coast.

Chatham Islands

Cloudy periods. Showers developing tonight.

Monday

North Island: Cloudy periods and isolated showers in the west. Mainly fine elsewhere. South Island: Cloud and isolated showers in the west and south, clearing. Cloud increasing about northern Canterbury in the evening. Fine elsewhere.

Tuesday

North Island: Becoming cloudy in the east and south with isolated showers developing. Cloudy periods for Auckland and Northland. Mainly fine elsewhere. South Island: Mainly fine. Areas of early cloud in the east.

Wednesday

North Island: Cloudy periods in the east and for Northland, with isolated showers clearing. Fine elsewhere. South Island: Fine.

And at the Chathams

Showers on Monday with gale southwesterlies, both easing on Tuesday. Remaining showers clearing on Wednesday with strong southwesterlies.
