Now the MetService long range forecast for all New Zealand to midnight Thursday

The Situation

A front over Westland is sliding slowly south to lie over Fiordland on Monday. Two areas of low pressure, with embedded fronts, are approaching the North Island from the north and northwest on Monday.

Looking at the weather to midnight tomorrow

Northland to Coromandel Peninsula

Mainly fine today. Cloudy periods and a few showers tomorrow. Rain spreading south from tomorrow afternoon, with some heavy falls possible in Northland.

Waikato and Bay of Plenty south to Manawatu

Fine. Areas of fog tomorrow morning.

Gisborne to Wairarapa

Mostly cloudy. A few showers in Hawke's Bay and Gisborne, and isolated showers elsewhere.

Horowhenua to Wellington, also Marlborough and Nelson

Fine spells increasing.

Buller and Westland

Mostly cloudy. Periods of rain in Westland, and the odd shower about Buller. Remaining rain clearing from Westland tomorrow morning and becoming fine.

Canterbury

Partly cloudy. Isolated showers from tomorrow afternoon.

Otago, Southland and Fiordland

Fine today. Scattered rain tomorrow.

Chatham Islands

Cloudy periods.

Tuesday

North Island: Rain developing north of Auckland city, and along the east coast. Scattered showers developing elsewhere. South Island: Mostly cloudy in the east with showers, isolated south of Timaru. Fine in the west.

Wednesday

North Island: Rain in the east, possibly heavy, easing. Scattered showers elsewhere clearing. South Island: Cloud and isolated showers in the east, clearing. Fine in the west.

Thursday

North Island: Showers in the east, easing. A few showers developing north of Taupo. Partly cloudy elsewhere with the chance of a shower. South Island: Fine in the east and north. Isolated showers developing in the west, turning to rain about Stewart Island at night.

Friday

North Island: Showers in the north and east, partly cloudy elsewhere with isolated showers. South Island: Showers spreading north. Mainly fine for Nelson and Marlborough.

And at the Chathams

Cloudy periods with the chance of a shower on Tuesday with southeasterlies. Clouding over on Wednesday with southeasterlies easing. The odd shower on Thursday and Friday with light winds.
