Football: Phoenix miss out on Premiers Plate as Mariners beat Adelaide

The Phoenix have finished in second place in the A-league minor premiership, after the Central Coast Mariners beat Adelaide United 2-0 tonight.

While the Phoenix finished the regular season on a high with Saturday's 3-0 win over Macarthur FC at Sky Stadium, the Central Coast Mariners beat Newcastle Jets in Saturday's other match to remain in control of the premiership race, with tonight's game in hand.

Their victory against against Adelaide United in Gosford - the final game of the regular A-League season - allowed them to leapfrog the Phoenix into first place.

Both teams have already been guaranteed semi-final berths.

The Phoenix ended the regular season with 15 wins and 53 competition points.
